CASTING COUP: JANHVI TO BE SEEN IN A SPECIAL FILM
It has been slightly over a year since Janhvi Kapoor made her acting debut with Dhadak. Though she didn’t appear on the big screen after that, the actor has been busy shooting for back-to-back films lined up next. There’s the Gunjan Saxena biopic, Roohi Afza, Dostana 2 and web anthology film Ghost Stories. Amid all this, there’s an extremely special project that Janhvi is set to star in. We have exclusively learned that late Sridevi’s daughter will team up with her father, producer Boney Kapoor, for a film.
The film will go on floors in January 2020 and is tentatively titled Bombay Girl. “It will see Janhvi in an all-new avatar. Undoubtedly, it’s going to be a special project for both her and Boneyji. After all, the father-daughter duo is coming together for the first time. For this project, Boneyji has joined hands with [producer] Mahaveer Jain,” says an industry insider.
Although makers are tightlipped about further details, we have learned that the film will be written and directed by Ssanjay Tripaathy. “It’s going to be a coming-of-age story of a rebellious teenager and Janhvi is very excited about the film, as the part is diametrically opposite to her other roles,” adds the insider.
When contacted, Boney tells us, “I’m very excited. Janhvi will portray a completely different part. Right now, I can only reveal that she plays a today’s Mumbai girl.”
Mahaveer is “thrilled” to be collaborating with Boney and Janhvi and says, “I can promise one thing that it will be an unforgettable story.”
Ask Boney if he is emotional about working with her daughter for the first time [after Sridevi’s demise last year] and he says, “I feel whenever a parent works with his/her kids, it’s an emotional experience, and the same holds true for me. I was equally overwhelmed when I teamed up with Arjun [Kapoor; son] for the first time [in Tevar; 2015].”
Interestingly, Boney is all set to work with Arjun too, in the Hindi remake of Tamil hit, Comali.
