FASHION DESIGNERS ON HOW TO TURN HEADS WITH YOUR OUTFITS
Having trouble finding that perfect outfit? Designers share tips on choosing clothes that best flatter your body
Fashion is about feeling great in what we wear and the looks we love and being confident in whatever you wear. Women come in all shapes and sizes, but how does one determine which pattern or silhouette is flattering for our specific body type? It all boils down to using fashion to accentuate your best features. UNDERSTANDING YOUR BODY Designer Vedika M agrees, saying, “Knowing your body type and what would flatter it the most is not something people adhere to. Playing by the strength of your body type can help you carry the look with ease and confidence.”
One need not necessarily follow rigid rules, but rather guidelines that help dress better, thus instilling confidence. Also, the choice of clothes available today is so varied that there’s something for everyone no matter what colour, scale, height, proportion or body shape one might be.
Many designers agree, the problem with understanding body shape is that most women focus on specific areas (such as their tummy, arms, bottom, thighs etc), which can cloud your judgement when it comes to seeing the whole picture. It’s important to view yourself as a whole so that you can define your body shape. Designer Zwaan says, laying with silhouettes elp you create an lusion. Every body ape is beautiful, ut there are some ricks you can do hat’ll help you up our fashion e. They help take the attention from er torso and accentuate e hips and legs. An hourglass-shaped person can always opt for a fit and flare structured garment. Emphasising the waist, fit and flare dresses and tops are the best silhouettes for this body type. Halter styles are best suited for the rectangle body type.” CONFIDENCE IS KEY
Whatever your shape is, be it petite, curvy or voluptuous, the important factor is being confident. Sh rin Salwan, editor, The Magazine by Pernia’s Pop-Up Shop, weighs in, saying, “Some of the curviest women carry bold prints with aplomb and some lean women do oversized clothing effortlessly. I think fashion is becoming more and more democratic. With increased conversations around body positivity and inclusivity, today trends are what you make of them. No longer are women hiding behind billowy silhouettes; voluptuous style icons such as Ashley Graham, Vidya Balan, Rihanna and Serena Williams are paving the way for celebrating one’s curves unabashedly. So, whatever your body type, as long as you’re comfortable, you can rock any outfit, any time!”
Designers share their expert advice on the styles and pattern that specific body types must preferably focus on.
