I would love to act: Neha Kakkar

After a series of hit tracks such as Coca Cola, The Hook Up Song and O Saki Saki this year, Neha Kakkar will now be seen judging a popular talent show. The singer, who loves juggling various roles, is game to take up acting offers as well. In a quick chat, Neha talks about her transition from contestant to judge on different seasons of the show. Excerpts.

From a contestant to judge, what were the challenges involved?

I have a big responsibility on my shoulders as a judge. When I was a contestant, I just needed to worry about my performance, now the scenario is different, as I am the one judging. Whenever I guide them about their performance, I make sure I am clear. So, in future, they can improve their performances. Sometimes, I get worried that my decisions may affect someone’s life in a negative way. I am already overwhelmed by some of the talents such as Rohit Raut and Chetana Bharadwaj, who are wonderful singers.

Since there are many singing reality shows. What is the future of these contestants? Do enough and more people get opportunities?

Reality shows give all aspiring singers a great platform to showcase their talent. I can say that confidently because even I am a product of a singing reality show. Post the show, my life changed drastically and for all the right reasons. There are many people whose careers started post their stint in a reality show and I know a lot of them who are doing great for themselves and are considered the best in our music industry.

How do you look back at your journey?

I’ve had a lovely journey. Whenever I look back, I recall only good memories. I am thankful to all those who gave me the opportunity in my initial days and had faith in me. I didn’t waste time to grab those offers post the show and worked really hard.

Do you wish to act in films?

I would love to act but not necessarily in a movie. If something nice comes up, even on an OTT platform, I’d love to explore that. One should always be open to try new things because you never know what clicks.

Not many singers have had a successful run as actors. What’s your take?

It depends on your choices. Sometimes, you might be a great actor but the projects you work on may not showcase your talent in a justified manner. So it’s all about the film choices you make.
