‘I want people to see bit of themselves in me’
With a plum project like Chhapaak starring Deepika Padukone in hand, actor Vikrant Massey is happy about where he has reached in his career. The actor, who is just seven years old in Bollywood, has a variety of roles in his filmography — his upcoming films include the sci-fi thriller Cargo and the light-hearted drama Ginny Weds Sunny with Yami Gautam.
Not catering to people’s expectations, Vikrant says, “I am open to every genre. And I wouldn’t want to categorise myself. I’m a storyteller and actor. Zindagi mein aap sabhi ko please nahi kar sakte, and sab kuchh same page pe nahi hota. My idea of storytelling is that it should be a reflection of society, feelings, interpersonal relationships. Mera yehi thought process hai.”
Remembered for his critically-acclaimed role of Shutu, the sensitive young boy in Death in the Gunj (2015), the actor chooses stories where there is a connect with the common man. “I want people to see a bit of themselves (in me). Action, drama, comedy, social issues... sab uske andar hi aata hai. I’m looking at portraying human stories which hold a certain amount of value and resonate with people,” he says.
The 32-year-old is “more than satisfied” with whatever is coming his way. He says, “Honestly, never in my life did I think [I’d get such projects]. You obviously want to be part of good projects, stories, and be appreciated for your work. But when things materialise for real, it’s a heart-warming and grateful feeling.”
Apart from films, Vikrant’s stint on the web, too, has worked out well for him. Starring in lead roles in Mirzapur and Criminal Justice, Vikrant says,
“We are happy with the response. I’m doing the final season of Broken But Beautiful. The kind of love we’ve got is great. We weren’t expecting people to take up the narrative so well.”
