I DON'T FIND SEX COMEDIES FUNNY: TAAPSEE PANNU
Sexual innuendos and making a woman the butt of all jokes isn’t entertaining, says the actor
She has become synonymous with the brave, feisty roles that she takes up. Setting new benchmarks for female actors in Bollywood, Taapsee Pannu has essayed some of the most unconventional characters on screen in Pink (2016), Naam Shabana (2017), Mulk (2018) and her latest release, Saand Ki Aankh, proving her acting prowess with elan, time and again.
Though the 32-year-old started her career with glamorous roles in South Indian cinema, besides Judwaa 2 (2017), she hasn’t done any out-and-out glam role in Bollywood. She even turned down an item song in a Hindi film. “I’m open to doing all these glamorous songs but only for my films where I’m the heroine. I’ll not do a random so-called item song. There has to be a very strong reason for me to do that song, apart from the fact that it will make me look glamorous,” says Taapsee.
Looking at her film choices so far, the actor asserts that the audience always expects something different from her.“If I do something conventional, they’ll not like it. To some extent, I will also not like it, and get bored. I want my audience to believe in me; that’s the niche I want to build for myself,” she says.
However, the actor asserts that she would strictly never do a sex comedy. Taapsee reasons, “Whatever sex comedies I’ve seen so far, I didn’t find them funny. I’ll never do one because it shows women in a particular light. Making a woman the butt of all jokes, having sexual innuendos, double meanings just to titillate the

audience isn’t entertaining.”
Taapsee made heads turn with her bikini-clad bod in Judwaa 2 and she says something similar is on the cards soon. “Judwaa 2 was challenging because to get size-zero body and look good in a bikini standing next to Varun Dhawan and Jacqueline Fernandez was tough. People would think that wearing a bikini and looking good on screen is easy, but it wasn't. I’ll soon be again doing something like that,” she says.
Taapsee has shot for Anubhav Sinha’s Thappad. So, what’s her criteria to sign a film? She says, “Whenever a film is offered, I ask myself, ‘Will I spend my hardearned money to watch this?’ If not, I’ll not sign up for it.”
