YAMI’S ON THE LOOKOUT FOR COMIC CAPERS

Yami Gautam wants to change the notion that women can’t be funny on-screen and take centre stage in comedy films

With a renewed sense of confidence in her comic timing post her stint in Bala, Yami Gautam is now on the hunt for a well fleshed out comedy film, which will put her newly honed skill to good use. The actor is seeking comic capers, however with a substantial role for her in them. “Yami wants to challenge herself and move out of her comfort zone to try new things. While she has been offered a few enticing roles, she is yet to say yes to a part that has convinced her completely,” says a source.

Yami says, “With my tryst with comedy in Bala, I find this an untapped zone for actresses. It would be great to try my hand at a comedy film, learn the ropes, tricks, comic timing and explore a new side of me as an artiste. It would be great to see myself or other female actors take centre stage and helm films which are largely comic in their tonality. I want to change the idea that women can’t be funny. I have been offered a few parts but none that has blown my mind yet.”

She further adds that she zeroes in on films based purely on her instinct. “As an audience myself, if I find a few good laughs, the film works for me. I am on the lookout for such a script. In times when the industry is booming, there’s a gamut of roles for us to explore. There are no ‘no-go’ zones for us and I am happy that I am an actor in an era when writers are visualising characters that are out-of-the-box and genuinely quirky,” she concludes.
