Dia urges for a pollution-free Delhi

Dia Mirza has been actively campaignin­g and using her voice to amplify the efforts of young children demanding action from government agencies against the rampant air pollution in Delhi. After a rally held by young climate champions in the capital recently, there has been an immediate shake up in the government resulting in some changes. Whether it is the Prime Minister’s Office setting up a special panel to provide a report on the issue within two weeks or the Supreme Court pulling up the central government and respective state government­s of Delhi, UP, Punjab and Haryana, their collective efforts have paid off. Dia has been rejoicing and celebratin­g the impact of this strike as she continues to back and motivate them to stand for their right to clean air.

Addressing the young champions, she says, “You are the hero. You all are! So awake, so alive, so real, so empathetic, so generous .... my heart has been bursting with joy.” The Sanju (2018) actor further adds, “This is a step forward, an awakening and acceptance of the issue in

hand. Acceptance is the first step to change and I believe we are moving towards it soon. We have to join hands collective­ly and assist our children, stand by them and assure them that this is not their fight alone. There is a long way to go but we have begun our journey and I couldn’t be happier!”

Over the past week, Dia has been reaching out to thousands of people through social media to highlight the urgency and criticalit­y of the situation, asking questions on the past and present and then, demanding solutions, while offering some herself, so that everyone can use their individual power to contribute in improving the situation.
