‘I would love to explore new genres and styles’

With superhit tracks such as Ik Mulaqaat (Dream Girl), Duma Dam Mast Kalandar (Zero; 2018), the title track of Wajah Tum Ho (2016), and Mann Kunto Maula (Gunday; 2014), Altamash Faridi seemed to have become comfortable with the sufi genre. But with his latest release, he is breaking out of the stereotype. His new song from Housefull 4, Ek Chumma, is a fun song and Altamash says that after Ik Mulaqaat, he got a call for this song, and the experience was “more amazing than he expected”. “Ek Chumma is a multistarrer song where you needed to have a lot of energy to create the vibe of the song. It was really fun singing the song and I had a lot of fun,” he says.

Altamash is glad that he is getting more opportunities to sing a variety of songs in the industry. “I have done a lot of romantic songs, but I am glad that I am getting this opportunity to show my versatility in music. This song is definitely different from what I generally sing and I enjoyed it to the core. Ek Chumma was sung in Arabic style, which is really difficult to sing, and requires a lot of voice modulation. I loved being part of this song,” he says. Altamash adds that since his voice has a sufi texture, he has always received more opportunities to sing romantic songs, but that was never a “conscious decision”.

“I am a singer and my only dream is to sing in different genres as much as I can. I would love to explore new genres and styles where I can show and prove my talent, as well as, my versatility as a singer. I am comfortable in whatever space you put me,” says the Aashiq Tera (Happy Bhag Jayegi; 2016) singer.

Since his debut in 2014 with a remixed version of Tu Hi Hai Aashiqui (Dishkiyaoon; 2014), Altamash has delivered a number of hits, but the journey has not been easy. Ask him how the path was up to this point and he says, “This question reminds me of the stairs I have taken and the hurdles I went through. It’s unbelievable that I am living my dream. Of course, it was not an easy journey to reach wherever I am now, and after whatever I have achieved so far, I feel grateful to see the love of my fans, friends and my family. The love of my fans and the blessings of my parents is the reason

I’m here today,” he concludes.

I have done a lot of romantic songs, but I am glad that I am getting this opportunity to show my versatility in music. This song is definitely different from what I generally sing. ALTAMASH FARIDI, SINGER
