KAUSHIK SAHA

-

Being a part of the Gen Y, 30ear-old Kaushik Saha was certain that he needed to broaden his horizons, and only then could he hope for a linguistic trope that would allow him to have a distinct voice. But with sheer hard work, Kaushik has managed to make a name for himself among legends and is not in any mood to stop. His process is rather peaceful. He says, “I spend seven to eight hours in my studio, working on my paintings. It depends on the size of the work and how much time is required to finish it.”

Landscape has always had a major presence in Kaushik’s work. “The landscape that I create comes from my unconscious realm but the images of humans, objects and incidents that I overlap in the landscape are inspired from the mundane. They are the things that I perceive and experience in my environment and society, which percolates in the works,” he says, adding, “Over the period of time, art has changed by leaps and bounds, the boundaries are broadened in India as well as in the Western art world.”

Talking about the art scene in India, he thinks that it is a mixture of everything. “New age contemporary Indian art is becoming more complex and interesting. Here, everyday the boundaries of art making are being broken and a fresh set of ideologies are coming into play. It is a very interesting time with a wide range of art being produced which are influenced by the current socio-economic political map of India. In terms of materials, there seems to be enormous experiments being carried out. It is a great time to be an artist,” he adds.
