Acting isn’t just about gaining fame for Sahil

- Titas Chowdhury

Sahil Salathia is excited with the release of his first feature film, Panipat. The actor who marked his acting debut with Ashutosh Gowariker’s television series, Everest, says that acting was never on the cards until he was called in for an audition. “In college, my parents wanted me to become a software engineer and I wasn’t really into it. It was then that I started modelling on the side after which I started doing television commercials. After that, I was called for the screen test of Everest,” he shares.

He further adds, “When I started shooting for it, I realised that I love the craft, which was not just about gaining fame and wanting people to click photographs with me. So I went to Barry John (theatre director) sir’s classes and thus began my training (to be an actor).”

Ask him about working with Ashutosh and he says, “He expects you to come on the set after doing a lot of homework. He held our hands and took us through the entire process. He’s such a peaceful person on the outside and it’s very important for a director to be calm because he’s the captain of the ship and the ultimate face of the movie. Ashutosh sir is a delight to work with and he should be every actor’s dream director.”

The actor, who has already shot for a portion of Nikkhil Advani’s upcoming project, says that acting is no child’s play. “Acting is very serious business and it takes a lot of responsibility to play characters. You have to give your 500% to what you’re playing onscreen. When there’s so much competition and you’re an outsider, you’ve to give it your all,” he signs off.
