Sana Amin Sheikh, who has been part of 13 shows in her ten-year long career, is basking in the love coming her way. She recorded a mash-up of recent Punjabi songs with a singer friend and released the cover. “I really enjoyed singing this mashup of Punjabi songs unplugged with a friend of mine. We’ve kept the voices raw with no tuning. And so far, we love the result and the response it’s getting,” says Sana, who started her acting career as a child actor in Hasratein in 1995. Later, as a grownup, she resumed acting with the 2009 film, Kya Mast Hai Life. Sana is glad that her career has progressed well over the years, and that she has got appreciation for many of her roles such as Mann Kee Awaaz Pratigya, Gustakh Dil and Krishnadasi.

Talking about her decision to sing, Sana says,

“I belong to a family of musicians. Some of my family members are trained in Hindustani classical music, and my grandfather and great grandfather were professional singers and theatre artistes. My maternal uncle is a professional singer, too. Unfortunately, I am not trained in music but as it runs in my blood, I have ‘sur’ in me. I always wanted to do covers of old Hindi songs and ghazals but never got the time to do it since I was busy with acting. As I had wrapped up my last show, my friend came up with this idea as we recorded the songs.”

Sana admits that she would love to do more covers but more than that, she wants to sing an original song. “I have many unreleased original compositions of my grandfather which I intend to record and release, too,” she concludes.
