Wanted to work with Sanjay Leela Bhansali sir since I was nine: Alia

-

Coming up in 2020: Sadak 2, Gangubai Kathiawadi, RRR and Brahmastra

Super-loaded could well be the correct term to describe the new year for you. Agree?

God willing, 2020 is going to be quite a year. I think having two releases a year is good enough but this year, I have four. I hope they all create a little place in people’s hearts. They are all very special to me.

To start with, you have a film with your father, Mahesh Bhatt…

Firstly, working with him was extremely special. And now, as we ready for the release of my first film [Sadak 2], helmed by dad, it feels unbelievably special. Brahmastra, too, is very special for so many reasons. I’m so excited about it. Then, I am working with Sanjay [Leela Bhansali] sir for the first time in Gangubai.

Is it true that working with Bhansali has been a longstanding dream?

That’s something I have looked forward to since I was nine. So, you can say that the dream I had as a nine-year-old is coming true now. And then, I am thrilled to be working with SS Rajamouli sir, who is one of the most celebrated filmmakers of the country and someone whose films are looked forward to by all of us. It’s great that I am getting to be a part of his film’s journey. Maybe, we can talk next December to assess how 2020 went by for me (laughs).

Are you content with the way 2019 panned out for you?

Last year, I had two releases. While one [Gully Boy] did extremely well, I expected the other [Kalank] to also get the equal amount of love. But it didn’t connect with audiences, and that’s how things go. You have a high and then, there can be a low, too. I guess that’s a part of learning, that nothing is permanent. Everything shall change.
