I am not an ambitious person: Shweta Basu Prasad

- Titas Chowdhury

Shweta Basu Prasad, who was last seen in The Tashkent Files (2019), says that she has no bucket list when it comes to exploring genres. The actor who started her career with Makdee (2002), a horror film and went on to do films such as to Vaah! Life Ho Toh Aisi! (2005), a fantasy comedy and Badrinath Ki Dulhania (2017), a drama, believes that it was not a conscious decision but sheer curiosity that drove her to become part of films with diverse flavours. She explains, “I watched and still watch a lot of films and series. I attend film festivals and I get inspired by so many actors, performances and filmmakers, and so, it’s really hard to rest my finger on a particular genre or a kind of role. I love exploring. I’m a very curious person. As an actor, I love surprises and I just want to keep doing different kinds of projects.”

Ask her about her dream director and she says, “I want to work with all of them, right from new and seasoned filmmakers to student filmmakers from film institutions. Whenever a filmmaker or a writer thinks of writing or casting, I want to be the first one to come to their mind. Every director has a different energy and understanding of life with which they make projects and perceive their characters. And that’s where my interest lies.”

Followers on social media and the paparazzi culture don’t interest her at all. For her, the number of clicks and views aren’t a benchmark of success. “Millions of followers on social media is not my idea of success. I’m an extremely passionate and hardworking person who enjoys what she does. Shooting is my favourite time. I love my job and a good team, who double as friends is a bonus. I just want to keep doing good work. Other than that, I’m not an ambitious person,” she concludes.
