Audience should ‘Female able to connect with be the roles I’m playing’

- Thinkal Menon

Be it inspiring young actors with her selection of roles or setting higher goals by going beyond acting and becoming a successful producer, south movie actor Jyotika, is a trendsetter.

“The screenplay matters the most to me,” shares an elated Jyotika, whose new offering Udanpirappe, her 50th film, was released on an OTT platform on Thursday.

She continues, “I also look out for extremely dignified women characters in a script. I will be happy if there are good messages in a film. I believe that there should be something to take back when you go back home. The female audience should be able to connect with the roles I’m playing.”

Jyotika is married to actor Suriya with whom she also runs a production house. Ask her if she enjoys any liberty while acting in a film that she also produces and she quickly replies, “Yes!” The star, who has 20-odd years of acting experience, further adds, “Well, the advantage is, I have more liberty about choosing scripts. I have more control over time. I mean, I can pack my schedule at 6pm and go home if I feel like doing so. It offers us more flexibility in terms of making decisions related to the projects.”

Quite many south films are remade in Bollywood and the latter faces severe criticism too. Quiz her on the same and she says that the trend of remaking movies isn’t something new. Jyotika adds, “Over the years, south industries have remade films from Bollywood and vice-versa. Every industry is coming up with good stories now. It is beautiful to see all movie industries growing together.”
