People did not imagine I’d play part: a serious on Gaurav Gera 3 Criminal Justice

His social media persona of Chutki is one that has many fans. It’s no surprise, then, that Gaurav Gera’s rather serious avatar in the third season of the web series Criminal Justice left his followers startled. The actorcomedian, who plays Arvind, the lead suspect Mukul’s father, says he has been inundated with messages asking why the switch to a serious role.

“Someone DMed me, ‘Arey Chutki! Why so serious?’ I think people did not imagine I’d be a part of a crime drama and play such a serious part. I am glad I can surprise my fans with my acting,” he says, stating how it gets tough to break stereotypes. “We tend to forget that Chutki is a character,” he quips.

Gera, however, makes a conscious attempt to make sure his real life does not reflect much on social media, where Chutki already exists in people’s minds. “I make an effort to not reveal my personality too much,” he says.

Being someone who constantly juggles between acting, content creation and hosting, preparing for a role like Arvind in Criminal Justice must not have been all that easy. He shares, “When I was approaching the role, I was trying to relate to the situation and wanted to look natural in the performance. I think natural acting is the trend that’s being appreciated by the audience now. The way the camera captures every single movement of your muscle, I found it easy.”

Talking about his equation with lead actor Pankaj Tripathi, Gera adds, “He hasn’t changed at all. We sit down and talk about everything, and not just cinema. I’ve worked with him on an upcoming project as well and we have an interesting equation on-screen. But, I’m not allowed to talk about it.”
