Festive season is always all about celebrations and grandeur, and not to forget the scrumptious delicacies. And sometimes, bingeing simply becomes irresistible. However, this can lead to a fair share of health problems. With the festive season over, it’s time to pull up your socks and get back to healthy eating habits.

Smriti Kochar, a gut health expert, shared on her Instagram account five things she does to get back to clean eating after Diwali. Here’s how you can get started.

PRACTISE PORTION CONTROL

Reduce your grain intake to just once a day. Grains like atta (flour) and rice have a similar impact on our blood sugar levels, as does regular sugar.

GIVE UP SUGAR

You need to absolutely give up sugar for a while. All the Diwali mithais (sweets) cause your blood sugar level to shoot up drastically. It affects the functioning of cells in your body due to oxidative damage.

HAVE BALANCED MEALS

Focus on eating balanced meals. When your day begins with dishes like dosa and poha, followed by roti for lunch and rice for dinner, you are basically unintentionally overloading yourself with carbs. Choose proteins and healthy fats instead of this like sufficient amounts of lentils or eggs.

DO INTERMITTENT FASTING

Intermittent fasting can sound like a fad, but the fact is that fasting is great for your digestive system. It helps your body and liver recover quickly. Your liver is the key detoxification organ, and fats can accumulate in it very quickly.

SAY NO TO ALCOHOL

Put a full stop on alcohol consumption for a month. The liver is the organ which has to metabolise alcohol. So give it a rest.

Diwali, not only brings with it joy, but also a lot of fat and weight. Besides switching to a healthy lifestyle altogether, you can also relax yourself by going for a jog or taking a walk.
