‘There was a time when I had no work’

The road to fame hasn’t been an easy for actor Sunny Hinduja. The actor, who has played pivotal parts in shows such as Aspirants (2021) and The Family Man, says that as he an outsider in the industry, he had a lot to prove.

“What can a budding actor ask for? Just the right break,” he tells us, recalling, “I got a film, Cycle Kick, during my final year at FTII (Film and Television Institute of India, Pune) in 2006. I was the happiest, as my institute too allowed me to take up the film. But, as luck would have it, the film got delayed and had a lowkey release — that too after five years. So, I was left to rework my career afresh.”

At that point, the actor says not many offers came his way, leaving him with no option but to take up whatever was offered. “At one point, I didn’t have much to choose from. Whatever bit I had, I picked the most decent ones and continued working, as I never had a plan B. There was a time when I had no work at all, and this went on for three-four years. But, I waited for things to change. Then, I got an international film and a few OTT projects, after which Aspirants happened. And the rest is history,” he says.

Having spent 17 years in the industry, Hinduja is happy that things have now fallen into place. “Ab sab sahi hai. I have good work, makers are considering me for pivotal roles. I’m working in a series and have Shehzada with Kartik Aaryan slated for a February 2023 release. I got to learn a lot from my co-stars like Kartik who, being an outsider, made a mark. I earned a friend for life in him. Also, Manoj (Bajpayee, The Family Man co-star) sir is a master artiste, someone I have always looked up to,” he shares.
