The three-part documentary series opens with the case of journalist Dheerendra Singh. Singh’s headless body was discovered after he had been missing for several days, prompting a police investigation and resulting in the discovery of the Kolander’s diary. DES

Aftab Amin Poonawalla’s admission that he was inspired by the American television series Dexter to murder his girlfriend Shraddha Walkar kicked up quite a stir on the internet. Suddenly, shows and series that depict crimes in gory, meticulous detail were held as offering a blueprint for rare, heinous crimes. We look at five works that recreated historical crimes that shocked the public in the midst of the ongoing discussion.

The three-part miniseries is based on the 1983 arrest of the Scottish serial killer Dennis Nilsen, who was apprehended following the discovery of human remains that had blocked a drain near his home. The notorious killer admitted to murdering 15 young men in London in the 1980s. He would strangle his victims to death or drown them. After a few days, he would dissect the bodies and either burn them or boil the remains before flushing them down the toilet.

TED BUNDY: FALLING FOR A KILLER

The documentary series follows the crimes of probably the most notorious murderer in history, Ted Bundy. Often pretending to be hurt or in need of assistance as a ruse to lure young women, Bundy would then kidnap, rape and murder them brutally. Though several films and series have been made in the past around his crimes, Falling for a Killer presented the story from the perspective of the victims along with that of Bundy’s closest acquaintances.
