Coming back to Hindi films after international projects wasn’t hard
Nimrat Kaur opens up about juggling multiple mediums and entertainment industries
For Nimrat Kaur, it was a comeback of sorts when she was seen in the OTT film Dasvi earlier this year. The actor’s last big screen release before that was Airlift in 2016 followed by a web series The Test Case in 2017. Currently busy shooting a social satire Happy Teachers Day, co-starring Radhika Madan, Kaur opens up about the challenges of returning to the industry after a career gap.
“Coming back to a Hindi film set after my international projects wasn’t difficult,” says Kaur, who was seen in American TV series Homeland and Wayward Pines, adding, “I had put on a lot of weight, so I had to work out heavily. But besides that, I did not face any problems. I was born here, I live here and I enjoy being here.”
She further elaborates, “Since the very first Hindi film I acted in, I have simultaneously worked on international projects. Sometimes, it may get a little tricky as people think you are abroad; they might not know you are here. They may have misconceptions which you need to clear, and for that you need to be here. But, I wouldn’t call that a problem.”
Ask Kaur if she feels film actors moving to OTT takes away opportunities from character artistes, and the actor says, “I don’t think anybody steals employment from anyone. There are opportunities for everyone.”
In fact, she goes on to laud the amount of work that’s happening in the entertainment industry because of the diversity of mediums. “It is all about the subject now. At the end of the day, you want to watch a good actor in a good story. Whether one is a film actor or an OTT actor does not matter anymore,” she says.
