Sustainable and static-free: Tame your tresses with
Wooden combs
With the onset of winter and dry weather, caring for hair health has become a priority for many. Not just shampoos and hair oil, people are also looking at swapping their plastic combs and brushes with wooden ones.
Explaining the basic science behind this variety, cosmetic dermatologist Dr Soma Sarkar says that plastic combs can cause static in your hair as they are positively charged, whereas hair is negatively charged. Additionally, they also lead to environmental pollution. On the other hand, wood offers a plethora of benefits for your hair as well as the environment.
Here are all the benefits of switching to wooden combs: l
Wood contains negative ions
The hair on your head is negatively charged, and so is wood. This doesn’t cause static and keeps the moisture in your hair intact. It also makes your hair look and feel smoother, explains the expert. l
Dr Sarkar says, “Wooden combs score over plastic and metal combs because they are environment friendly, organic and mostly made of bamboo or neem bark,

which makes them easier to clean and use. They can also be reused, making them a more sustainable option.” Nourishes hair and scalp l
“The teeth of wooden combs are softer as compared to other types of comb, which doesn’t hurt the scalp. Regular use of wooden combs can also help evenly distribute natural oils on your scalp and hair,” elaborates Dr Sarkar. This will give a glossy and smooth look to the hair.
Boosts hair growth l
If you are aiming for long and luscious hair, opt for a wooden comb. It massages the scalp without harsh bruising, which helps improve blood circulation. As a result, the hair gets a boost for growth.
No tangles or brittle hair l
A wooden comb does not tangle your hair as much as a plastic or metal comb would. It runs smoothly through the hair, avoiding any breakage. It is clearly a good option, if the strength of your hair is a cause of concern.
Durable and renewable l
Most of the wooden combs are made of bamboo, which is a natural, sustainable and renewable source.
