Out of sight, out of mind is a concept that is quite prevalent in the entertainment industry. But Sumeet Vyas, who has been away from the screen for a while, is unperturbed. The actor shot for a few projects over the last two years and is waiting for them to release. But the break hasn’t made him feel insecure. “It (staying away from the limelight) doesn’t bother me much. Since the producers put in a certain amount of money and energy into a project, they know the best time to release it for maximum benefit,” says the 39-year-old, who has been a part of films such as Veere Di Wedding (2018) and English Vinglish (2012).

The actor recently shot for an upcoming film and a web show called Kabhi Aar Kabhi Paar. Ask if a backlog of projects makes him feel irritated and the actor replies in the negative. “I don’t get frustrated by projects not releasing. Sometimes, as an actor, it’s good to disappear for a bit. Two years ago, when I was doing a lot of work, I felt too exposed. But sometimes, you have to step away for people to perceive you in different kinds of roles,” he maintains.

Addressing the out of sight, out of mind phenomenon of showbiz, Vyas adds, “There is always that risk, and you have to take it in your stride. If you want to explore new characters, you will have to take a step back. Otherwise, you will keep getting similar roles and burn out.”
