NO CHEERS TO STYLE
Style experts aren’t impressed with T20 cheerleaders’ costumes
Not everyone’s cheering the pom-pom girls at the Indian Premier League. Fashion designers seem rather disappointed with the costumes of the cheering squads at the T20 cricket tournament, and say they could’ve been far more stylish.
While designer Anupama Dayal says, “I find the dresses a little ‘thaka hua’ and not suited to either our culture or our climate,” Anand Bhushan adds, “These costumes are more suited for a circus performance than the IPL. They come across as a confused blend of trying to look sexy while not offending our over-sensitive ‘traditional’ audiences. This also reminds how the (now dissolved) Pune team’s attempt at cheerleaders wearing saris last year was probably the lowest form of fashion!” Here’s a style breakdown of each team.
