DESPITE RAIN, RAAHGIRI ROCKS IN CP, DWARKA
The cloudy skies could do little to deter Delhiites from taking to the streets on Sunday morning as they participated with full fervor at Raahgiri events in CP and Dwarka. From Zumba dancing to fitness sessions, there were lots to keep people occupied.
The early morning drizzle did not deter Delhiites from landing up in large numbers at Connaught Place and Dwarka to participate in Raahgiri, this Sunday. Though the events at Rohini had to be cancelled following heavy showers, but the spirit at the othero two venues were intact, with people taking part in dance and fitness, cycling and running with full gusto.
Raahgiri, a people’s movement, is organised in the city by the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), Delhi Police, Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and Embarq. The initiative is also supported by several citizen groups and Hindustan Times, among others.
Raahgiri has now become a platform to create social awareness with several issues being addressed through street plays and other forms of art. This week, the thrust was perhaps environmental issues. To this end, Greenlco launched a campaign named, Care for Delhi Air, to awaken a sense of social responsibility among the masses about causing less air pollution. This was further made interesting with a street Ludo (snake and ladder game) that helped to create more buzz around their campaign and a novel concept — STOP (stand to oppose pollution).
