MAESTROS SUPPORT THE EPIC

-

Oscar award winners, music composer AR Rahman and sound designer Resul Pookutty, have come together to support the much-awaited epic, Nanak Shah Fakir.

Depicted through Nanak’s friend, companion and disciple — Bhai Mardana, a Muslim Fakir, this movie is a first-of-its-kind Hindi film in more than 500 years of glorious Sikh history. It celebrates the teachings of Nanak that both believe in.

“I’m a dreamer. In every instance of life, I think about ways to celebrate similarities and avoid things that separate us ... I’ve always been curious to know more about the teachings of Nanak Sahib, which are similar to my beliefs. When Resul showed me this movie, I was awestruck. I hope people take religion out of this and see it as a movie and see the humanity in it — that's what is most beautiful about it. Nanak Shah Fakir has the scale and impact of Lawrence of Arabia,” says Rahman.

While Pookutty, the sound designer and co-producer of the film, says, “When I saw the film, I was blown over by the content. It’s been a fulfilling journey, which has changed me too.”

With music legends collaborating for the film, one of the high points of the film is its ethereal music. The shabads (sacred hymns), composed by Uttam Singh, have been sung by Padma awardees Pandit Jasraj and Bhai Nirmal Singh, with contribution by singers Kailash Kher, Harshdeep Kaur and Ishwanik Kaur.

Produced by Gurbani Media Pvt. Ltd., Nanak Shah Fakir will release worldwide

on 17th April, 2015.
