DESIGNS THAT INSPIRE, EMPOWER
His detailed understanding of Indian crafts and innovative use of traditional designs has created new dimensions in the world of luxury and fashion, and now, designer Manish Malhotra has taken forward the use of creativity as a weapon of change.
Last week in Mumbai, he presented Mijwan-The Legacy, a fashion show in support of the Mijwan Welfare Society (MWS). Malhotra, who completes 25 years as a costume stylist and 10 years of his label this year, adopted the Kaifi Azmi Sewing and Embroidery Centre in Mijwan four years ago to help generate employment for women there. “The Mijwan women got an opportunity to be independent, and I got to showcase to the world the best that our country has to offer. After four years of working together, these talented women are now like family to me, and our association has further deepened by weaving threads of change for future generations. The new collection thus is very modern, drawing inspiration from the young who are proud to celebrate Indian craftsmanship with a fresh voice. And, 2015 is the year to celebrate timehonoured associations and women empowerment,” said Malhotra.
On the ramp, traditional was balanced with the modern. Chikankari with a contemporary flair, floral patterns on crop tops, skirts, gowns, jackets and saris for women, and sherwanis, bandhgalas for men in delicious delicate hues stood out.
