Kejriwal remembers his ‘nautanki’ days at Bhatt’s play
It was an unusual place to spot a gathering of politicians. Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, along with deputy chief minister of Delhi, Manish Sisodia, MLA Alka Lamba and AAP leader and poet Kumar Vishwas attended the staging of theatrical adaptation of Mahesh Bhatt’s film Hamari Adhuri Kahani in town on Saturday.
When Kejriwal, who came to the event with his wife and daughter, was invited on stage by Bhatt to share a few words, he hit a nostalgic note. “Main yahan aake bahut khush hoon. Acting, direction, script sab bohut badhiya tha. Aur play dekh kar mujhe apne college ke dino ki yaad agaye, main bhi college mein theatre kiya karta tha,” he said. The CM even confessed that he was happy to have met Bhatt in person. “Main Mahesh Bhatt saab ka fan hoon, main bohut khush hoon ki mujhe unn se milne ka mauka mila,” Kejriwal said.
The filmmaker had some equally admiring words for Kejriwal. “Never in the past 40 years have I ever seen a leader of any state sit through an entire play like a common man. It is a lot of encouragement for amateur artists. This only says so many things about the kind of leader he is. As Nelson Mandela once said, ‘A small person will make you feel small but a great person will make you feel great,” said Bhatt.
It was an evening of emotions as the audience lost itself in a timeless saga of love and life. The theatrical adaptation of the film Hamari Adhuri Kahani was thoroughly enjoyed by all the guests as well as the chief minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal. Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt, who had co-written the play with Suhrita Sengupta, was also present.
