WHAT MAKES RAMJAS ONE OF THE COOLEST COLLEGES

-

THE GUINNESS RECORD:

Yes, Ramjas can boast of one of these too. Principal Dr. Rajendra Prasad holds the Guinness Book of World Records record for being the longest-serving principal in the world.

THE COLLEGE CANTEEN:

An integral part of any college experience is closely tied to its canteen, right? With dishes such as rajma chawal, kadi chawal, chhole bhature and pav bhaji, the Ramjas College canteen scores high for its food as well as quick service. “Our canteen is the best. Period. Who can beat such a cool canteen that serves hot and fresh food, and that too lightning fast? If someone needs quality food in DU, come straight to Ramjas,” says Arunima Chauhan, a proud Ramjasite who claims that the canteen is her second home.

STATE-OF-THE-ART INFRASTRUCTURE:

Infrastructure has always been Ramjas College’s strong point. The renovated classrooms with whiteboards, individual LCD projectors and top-of-the-line department rooms make for a killer combo of learning and fun. The college also flaunts state-of-the-art multimedia facilities that could put any college to shame. “Ramjas is a mix of the old and new. I was a student in 1986 and the college was still beautiful at that point, and now my daughter studies there. Two generations and Ramjas has just shown us that old school architecture with a touch of advancement can look cool,” says Sudipti Rao, an alumni of the college.

ECA SOCIETIES:

The ECA Societies of Ramjas College are one of its strongest suit. The Ramjas Debating Society, The Literary Society, Shunya – the dramatics society, Focus – the photography society, Backbeat – the music society, In Step – the dance society, Qnights – the quiz society and Melange – the fine arts society, have not only produced the best musicians, debators and organised amazing literary fests, but also hold records and accolades of their own. These societies participate in various intra and inter college competitive events and have come out on top in most.

HANGOUTS IN AND AROUND COLLEGE:

Whether it is the famous Sutta Lane, college canteen, ECA room, basketball courts or the fields, there is so much in the college itself that the students can have a ball without taking even a step out of the college. But for those who always need more, Kamla Nagar market, Hudson lane, Majnu Ka Tila, Kamala Nehru Ridge and many other hangouts are just a stone’s throw away. “Ramjas is centrally located in the north campus, and the north campus has no shortage of eating joints, fun activities, historical gems and spots to just chill. The college itself is pretty cool too,” says Ramit Mathur, a student.

HISTORICAL CONNECT:

With 100 years comes a lot of history, and Ramjas has seen its fair share. Mahatma Gandhi inaugrated it and Dr B R Ambedkar was a part of its governing body. The college ran into two shifts after India’s partition, the morning one allotted to Delhi University and the evening slot alloted to Lahore University for the refugees. It provided all students with bicycles for travelling so that no one faced commuting issues. The college has played an important role in the freedom struggle too, as its students were actively involved in the freedom movement and are even known to have sheltered freedom fighter Chandrashekhar Azad.

A PLACE FOR ALL:

Apart from all that the college can flaunt, it is a home for all, anyone and everyone across the world, and is united as one under that belief. The college has students from the farthest corners of India and the world, and stands as an equal ground for everyone to flourish and learn. Offering both graduate and postgraduate courses makes it the most preffered choice for all too.
