- SNIGDHA AHUJA

Today, show off the power of our beloved tricolour by playing with patriotic hues. Experiment with indulgent tangerines, delicious shades of green and serene white to celebrate. Here’s all the beauty inspiration you need.

The power of green

Go for heavy-set green eyes if you are commemorating the day with a get-together with friends in the evening. Start by priming your eyelids and then applying a leafy-green shadow that’s lined with glitter. Top it with a thick-stroked cateye or dainty winged eyeliner, and finish your eyemakeup with a single application of kohl on the waterline. A pair of faux lashes or a generous helping of mascara will light up your eyes in a jiffy.

Marmalade sunsets

Orange might be a tricky colour, but you can play with it in myriad ways. Pull off a signature gradient lip so you can emanate a fun ombré vibe. Start with a burgundy or dark chocolate liner to contour the lips and blend it inwards. Now, take a creamy tangerine liquid matte hue and fill in the rest of the area. Use your fingertips to blend additionally. To add another dimension to your lip, use a yellow or dull gold eyeshadow and apply it with a brush in the inner-most parts of the lip. You can even do your eyes in a similar way by playing with deep jewel tones, marmalade hues, deep tangerines and creamy canary yellows.

Ivory and creams

If you thought it’s difficult to add white to your beauty look, think again. A creamy white eyeliner can go a long way in perking up your look — from using it on the waterline for a doe-eyed look to creating a duo-toned monochrome cateye. For a bit of whimsy, you can use the white even on the inner corners of the eye. If you think your white looks too matte, brush a dull silver shadow on top of it to add some edge.

Floral might

There’s nothing that spells patriotic fervour like beautiful flowers to adorn your hair. To traditional marigolds to white roses — intersperse them with a milkmaid braid or use them as a maang-accessory for a fun look.

Nailing it with expert advice

If you want to show off tricolour love with some nail art, here’s a fun idea. “Apply few coats of white nailpaint and let it dry. Now, dab-on dots with green and orange hue over it (with a nail art pen or a tooth pick). Be sure to coat your nail-do with a transparent laquer to seal it,” suggests beauty expert Ishika Taneja.
