Modhas and masala chai woo Vidya Balan

- SHALVI MANGAOKAR

Vidya Balan has often maintained that she feels strongly for India’s handloom industry. And recently the actor made an impromptu visit to an ongoing exhibition at Bandra Reclamation in Mumbai.

We have been told that Vidya and her sister decided to visit the handloom and handicraft market, where weavers and farmers often sit at the stalls to sell their products.

A source close to the actor says, “Everyone who was present at the event was surprised when Vidya turned up. She spent a lot of time at every stall, and was interested in knowing about the products. She also interacted with the weavers and farmers.”

Ask Vidya about the experience, and she says, “It was an impromptu visit. It was fun to walk around the stalls. I loved the stuff that was on display — from handwoven ikats and jute modhas to the masala chai that was being served there. It was a delight to see the work there. I think it’s a great concept that allows visitors to interact with the farmers and artisans directly, and understand the work that goes behind everything.”
