Actor Deepika Padukone’s workout video, where she is prepping for her Hollywood debut opposite Vin Diesel, got 145k likes and over 6000 comments on Instagram in just two days.

Actors Alia Bhatt, Malaika Arora Khan and Jacqueline Fernandez have also posted their workout videos. Such videos are gaining popularity and driving fans to be fitter. “I love working out. I love pilates and love being fit. So, by posting a video, it’s my way of motivating people to staying fit and healthy. I know my fans like that,” says Malaika. Fitness expert and author Yasmin Karachiwala, who also trains Deepika and Alia, agrees, “Social media is a great way for the celebrities to reach out to their fans and also for the fans to know what their favourite stars are doing. When they post on social media, it motivates people to follow them and adopt a healthier lifestyle. However, celebrities should be careful about what they post because they need to send out the right message.”

Celebrity fitness trainer Mickey Mehta says, “Promoting wellness and fitness through any channel has its advantage. It helps fans to connect with the new trends in fitness world. But care must be taken to choose a program that suits you, your body and your lifestyle.”

Besides getting a glimpse into the real life of celebs, it also improves their fan base. “It’s an image building exercise,” says Yatan Ahluwalia, image consultant.

Videos feed fans exactly what they want and form a better impression than just photographs. “Social media is a great way to trumpet your awesomeness. Celebs can engage with their fans, inspire them,” says Saurabh Uboweja, brand strategist.
