A FOND FAREWELL TO AMMA
From some who’ve worked with her, to those who were touched by her dignified charm, celebs pay tribute to late Jayalalithaa
Tamil Nadu chief minister and erstwhile actor, Jayalalithaa aka Amma’s death on Monday has left everyone mourning. Known for her poise and power, she remained in everyone hearts despite endless controversies that hovered over her political career. In her acting career spanning two decades, Amma appeared in over 140 films in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi film industry.
Recalling meeting her during an event celebrating 100 years of film industry, Kannada film actor Laxmi Raai says: “I told her how happy I was to see her. She sweetly replied, ‘Thank you’. ... She was the greatest leader we had and we lost her too soon. She fought throughout her journey and has been an inspiration to many.”
Veteran singer Lata Mangeshkar, who sang Aagi Re Badan Mein Jwala for Jayalalithaa’s 1968 film, Izzat, also tweeted her condolences.
Actor Tamannaah calls her inspirational. “I didn’t get to meet her but she shall always be missed for having a strong influence on so many people.” Taapsee Pannu, who has worked in Tamil and Telugu cinema, says Amma’s example will be given for ages. Actor Sonu Sood agrees. “She was one who really helped the southern industry and every faculty in the industry had very high regards for her.”
