For varsity students in North Campus, who need photocopies of notes, printouts of assignments and hard binding for their projects, Patel Chest has been a one-stop solution. “Patel Chest is the mecca for everything from certificates printing to projects,” says Bhanu, a second year Delhi University student. Demonetisation, however, has taken a toll on the sales of the shops in the area. To top it all, a change in curriculum has led to shutting shop on the project-making business too.

“Demonetisation may be a good move, but our business has faced losses as students don’t have change. The first few days were most difficult but we’ve now opted for online wallets,” says Hari Singh, a shop owner. Another shop owner in the area, Rajesh Sharma regrets the deficits, but is optimistic that things will improve. “We’ve faced a major dip in our business as students have either old notes or no change. Online wallets have helped, but, it’s still inconvenient. We support the move and will bear with the loss if it’s for greater good,” says Sharma.

The market has also stopped making quick projects for students who escape hard work. “Demonetisation is one reason, but we’ve not made projects since the curriculum changed. Professors are strict now and students too don’t take chances,” said the shopkeeper.

Akshat Kapoor, a student of SRCC says, “Our seniors would get the projects made but it’s unfair for those who put in efforts. Hope that shops don’t start it again.”
