Being human has never been easy. Now, even you can head to the Manavta ki Deewar or Wall of Humanity, a symbolic wall to witness the effort students have put in to bring down the wall between the poor and the privileged.

As an initiative by the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) and Students for Development (SFD), ropes are tied to trees at the periphery of the Faculty of Arts in North Campus, where anyone can come and hang warm clothes, blankets or keep books, and anyone who needs them can pick it up.

“We’ve been thinking of doing something like this since quite a few months and with winter at its peak, it made sense to start the initiative now,” says Priyanka Chhawri, DUSU vice president. Inspired from an international concept, this drive is not just to help the poor but also for students who might need it. “While many of us might have surplus which we don’t hesitate to throw away, a lot of students studying here don’t have enough warm clothes and blankets. This drive aims to bring a balance between the haves and the have-nots,” she adds.In a week’s time, the Manavta ki Deewar has already drawn many donors and positive reviews.

This initiative is accessible to all. A Ramjas College student, Juveria Mahir, says, “A lot of us wonder, where to go and donate our clothes. This wall solves that problem. Also, at night, there people such as rickshaw pullers and labourers who sleep on the roads in the campus. For them, this wall is a place to find everything that they need.”
