SGT UNIVERSITY STUDENTS CELEBRATE AT CONVOCATION
Walking proudly in their academic gowns, the graduating students of SGT University were filled with excitement at the annual convocation
Convocation represents the culmination of a student’s academic endeavours and is an opportunity for the campus community, faculty and friends to recognise and celebrate a student’s accomplishments. At the recently organised convocation by SGT University on the 10th and 18th of March 2017, the tradition was carried forward where a total of 397 students received their degrees.
On the 10th of March, Shri Ajit M Sharan, IAS, secretary, Ministry of AYUSH (Govt. of India) as the chief guest along with the guest of honour Dr DK Sharma, medical superintendent of AIIMS, New Delhi, graced the event. “SGT University has a very strong infrastructure and students of the university are well disciplined,” said Ajit M Sharan. The guest of honour, Dr DK Sharma in his speech motivated medical students to gain their destination. He advised students to be honest in their profession and to have respect for their patients, seniors and juniors. Graduate and postgraduate students from different courses, namely, BDS, MDS, MBBS, BPT and MPT were given their degrees and 12 students received gold medals.
Chief guest, Justice Swatanter Jain, National Green Tribunal along with the guest of honour, Balvinder Singh, former secretary, Ministry of Mines (Govt. of India) graced the convocation held on the 18th of March with their presence. “Stress is increasing in our life so it is important to know how to avoid it,” said Balvinder Singh. He also advised students to be fearless and think freely in life. While underlining the importance of discipline in life Justice Swatanter Jain said that “Student life is like a foundation in life. Students invest time and money during this period”. On the occasion, Pro Chancellor, Dr TD Dogra presented Degree of Doctor of Letters (Honoris Causa) to journalist, Achyutanand Mishra and Gandhian activist, Shri Rajagopal PV. A total of 160 students from courses namely LLM, M. Sc, M. Tech, B. Tech, B.Sc and others, received their degrees including 8 diplomas and 70 students also received gold medals.
Chancellor Ram Bahadur Rai (Padmashree), Vice Chancellor Dr Sham Lal Singla, Pro Vice Chancellor Prof. Daleep Singh, Chairperson of Dashmesh Educational Charitable Trust Madhupreet Kaur Chawla and Managing Trustee Manmohan Singh Chawla also graced both the occasion. The events concluded with the National anthem. Students were seen clicking selfies and enjoying the moment with their friends and family.
