7 tips to party in an eco-friendly way

- Nikita Saxena ■ nikita.saxena@htlive.com

We all love to party and have a good time but often overlook the damage that we cause to the environment in the process. However, that’s not to say that one can’t have eco-friendly parties or get-togethers. Since it’s World Environment Day tomorrow, we bring to you some eco-friendly party tips to help you enjoy, responsibly.

PLANTABLE SEED PAPER INVITES

Available online, plantable seed paper is perfect for invites for your guests. Once they’re done with the invite, they can follow the instructions given along with the paper to grow it into a plant. Not only the use of handwritten plantable paper invites adds a personal touch, it will also help in the growth of something useful and beautiful.

USE EDIBLE CUTLERY

You can have your plate and eat it too! Edible cutlery includes spoons, plates and other items made using flour and other kitchen ingredients. It’s the perfect way to reduce garbage. If you find it difficult to buy (or create!), use recyclable cutlery that lasts you a few outdoor picnic parties.

MANAGE YOUR WASTE

Whenever you throw a party, make sure to separate your dustbins for biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste to ensure that anything that can be recycled, isn’t wasted. Also, instead of throwing away leftover food, volunteer for organisations or take help from those who distribute food among the needy.

PARTY AMONG THE GREENS

If you have the luxury of owning a garden or a terrace, make full use of it as the venue. Not only will your pots and plants serve as decoration, but using sprinklers will cut down on electricity consumption and harmful effects of airconditioners. You will also be able to ditch balloons and other plastic deco items that are toxic.

TRAVEL TOGETHER

This is just as much fun as it is sensible. Cars are notorious for the pollution they cause, and travelling together will contribute towards preventing that. Not to mention, any time spent with friends is always fun.

USE ORGANIC FOOD

Organic food is grown with the minimum use of chemicals such as pesticides and fertilisers. It is just as good for the environment, as it is for your health, since lesser chemicals means lesser soil and underground water contamination.

GIFT A PLANT

This one’s the best. When your guests are leaving, gift them a plant. Not only are you giving them something of utility, you’re also contributing to the environment by having one more green element around.
