“When I started off, I had to make sure that I take up projects that would help me become a better actor. Being an outsider [in Bollywood], it wasn’t a cakewalk. I didn’t get a so-called `100 crore launch. So, I was taking one step at a time to make things work for me,” says Rakul, who will be seen alongside Sidharth Malhotra in her next in Bollywood after a gap of almost four years. Asked if she was ever subjected to casting couch, she says, “Though I have heard people talking about it, but personally I didn’t face any such thing till now — neither in Telugu film industry nor in Bollywood.”

She adds, “Telugu industry has immense respect for talent. But, it goes without saying that the industry is huge where both bad and good people reside. So the way you project yourself is important and one must be smart enough to understand who is what.”
