SRCC’s date with celebs makes students go gaga
An auditorium’s air conditioning is bound to get defected if celebrity singers raise the temperature with thier high-octane performances. Such was the case at Delhi University’s Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC), where students didn’t mind sweating it out to attend performances of singers Ankit Tiwari and Shibani Kashyap.
On Thursday afternoon, Shibani, a graduate of Lady Shri Ram College for Women (LSR), sang the classic number Shola jo bhadke, and the students were transposed to the black and white era. “During my college days in LSR, we started a musical band, and two of its members were from SRCC. So, performing at SRCC was like coming back home since my college (LSR) was like a sisterwing of SRCC,” says Shibani recollecting her long association DU. “My best friends are still the ones I had in college,” she adds, crediting her success to her college days.
Shibani told the students attending the event that “College is the right time to pursue your dreams.” And, many applauded her inspirational talk.
The wait was unbearable for those students who wanted to hear singer Ankit Tiwari. But, when he took to the stage, he enthralled the crowd with numbers such as Sun Raha Hai Na Tu and his latest number Tum Har Dafa Ho.
“It’s really hot here, but I admire the fact that you guys were waiting for me and welcomed me with such loud cheers,” said Ankit, recalling his own journey of becoming a popular singer in Bollywood.
Actors Manjot Singh and Varun Sharma (popular for their 2013 film, Fukrey) also joined later to share their stories with the college students, and boost their morale. Manjot, who had running temperature, made sure to turn up for the event so that his fans don’t get disheartened. “Delhi is the place where I was born and brought up. So, there is nothing like visiting the Capital. There was a time when I didn’t get admission in DU due to low percentage and now, I am invited as a guest. It’s a moment of great pleasure for me,” said Manjot.
