Actor Aamir Khan has been on a whirlwind promotional tour of his new film, Secret Superstar. Last week, the actor-producer was in Turkey for three days to promote the film, also starring Dangal actor Zaira Wasim. On Sunday (October 8), Aamir landed in Mumbai at 6am from Turkey and by 7am he had already started his promotional tour in India. A source says, “Aamir had lined up several things through the day.”

However, by noon, all planned activity was shelved for a special reason – it was Aamir’s ex-wife Reena Dutta’s 50th birthday on that day, and Aamir wanted to do something for her. “Around 12, he got a call from his children, Junaid, 23, and Ira, 20, who told him that they would like to celebrate Reena’s 50th birthday with a surprise party,” says an insider.

Aamir immediately agreed to be part of it. “He rescheduled a number of commitments so that he could plan the bash with his kids. He was involved in making the arrangements along with Junaid and Ira, and was in touch with them over the phone throughout the day,” says the insider.

At the end of the day, a surprise party was planned at Reena’s residence in the evening. “Aamir made sure that things that Reena likes were organised. He, along with wife Kiran Rao, attended the bash. Their family and friends turned up, too. Since it was her 50th birthday, everyone was present to make it more special,” says the insider. Aamir couldn’t be reached for a comment.

Reena has been actively involved in Paani Foundation (a not-for-profit company set up by Aamir and Kiran in early 2016).
