I now want to sit back and enjoy : Vidya Balan
After a spate of not-such-great films at the boxoffice, Tumhari Sulu came at the right time for Vidya Balan. And now that the boxoffice verdict is out, she is ecstatic with the response. HT City chats with the actor about the success of her film and new role as CBFC member.
Your film has received rave reviews and is doing well at the box office.
It has been crazy good, and I am just soaking it all in. We watched it about a month ago and I think we had made a good film and I am happy that the audiences feel the same way. I have not really got a break to sit down and say ‘Oh wow’. I now want to sit back and enjoy. It’s a great feeling because it has been unanimously liked and everyone’s work has been appreciated.
What about your new role with the CBFC? How has it been so far?
I am enjoying it. Contrary to what people think, there is not much responsibility. Even I thought I would have to watch all films but then Smriti Irani (minister of information and broadcasting) explained that I don’t have to watch every film. Then I understood that the examining committee comprises people from different walks of life and they certify films. If the certification given is not acceptable to the producer and director, then it goes to the revising committee which is where we come in. I’ve just watched two films so far and it’s been fun. I am learning.
As a CBFC member, what is your take on the Padmavati controversy ?
As a CBFC member, I don’t think I am allowed to talk about it, so I will not comment. But as an actor, it is distressing to see what is happening. I am not quite understanding what is happening. I am not even sure of the reaction as pretty much everyone in the industry also thinks the same. It is unsettling and confusing.
