Celebrating women empowerment
International Women Polytechnic (IWP) under the aegis of KLGR Educational Society celebrated its annual event, ‘Melange — A blend of Art’ 2017 in a grand way on November 25 at Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium,
here. Eminent personalities attended the day-long event. Some of the celebrity guests for the event included actor and anchor Shivani Pasrich, renowned pageant coach Lt. Rita Gangwani, fashion designer Akshay Wadhwa, Ms. Teen Universe 2017 Srishti Kaur, Mayor of south Delhi Municipal Corporation Kamaljeet Sehrawat and Veena Sharma, MCD Councillor, Janakpuri. The judges and the celebrities lauded the talent and creativity of the students of IWP. The highlights of the event were the fashion shows, which dealt with diverse themes like transgender sensitivity, walking down the Victorian era, Made In India and conservation of the environment. There were also dance performances by students from all IWP franchises across the
country. IWP, which has been around for 19 years, has grown steadily to emerge as one of the leading players today for imparting education to women in fields of fashion designing, dress designing, teacher training courses, interior designing, beauty culture/ cosmetology and other vocational courses. The IWP franchise has pan India presence currently and growing rapidly.
During the valedictory address, Vishal Nijhawan, MD of IWP, cited an interesting anecdote on women empowerment.
“The women of a village in Tamil Nadu were so industrious that the men, who married these ladies, had to move in with them rather than vice a versa as is the norm in marriages,” Nijhawan said.
