The annual cultural fest of Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC), Delhi University — Crossroads 2018 — has always created news — for good and wrong reasons. And this year was no different. From two star performances leaving attendees complaining of no breathing space to a shift of focus from cultural events to newer elements — the fest left everyone talking.

FUN ELEMENTS

While most colleges focus on performances, the students’ union of SRCC had a different plan. Along with the regular song-dance competitions, and fashion shows, this year other innovative events were introduced. “We organised a stunt show, debate sessions, burger and momo eating competitions,” said Mihir Rungta, a member of the students’ union. With the passion to do something different, some events were also focussed on corporate social responsibility, informed Rungta. And the new events turned out to be crowd-pullers. “Hum mein se koi gaya hi nahi to see any cultural performances. Saara crowd wahi tha,” said Deeksha Pant, a student of SRCC.

BENNY WAS AMAZING

The musical fiesta, which began with DJ Teri Miko and Anish Soon taking on the stage on day one, reached a new high on day two with singer Benny Dayal’s performance. Not only did he belt out his hit numbers, but also threw in some moves ala Michael Jackson. And when girls screamed, ‘I love you’, Benny blew kisses in reciprocation .“Benny Day al was amazing! There was so much energy and he sang all kinds of songs — from his Badtameez Dil to Gangnam Style,” gushed Pant. The third day saw a befitting finale with a high-octane performance by the band Astitva.

‘WE NEED MORE SPACE QUITE LITERALLY!’

“I’m a huge Nucleya fan. While I loved the whole fest, nothing beats Nucleya’s act!” said Chaishta Channan, a student of Maitreyi College, who attended the performance on day four. “The whole area was so crowded that I could barely find any space to stand. Despite my love for Nucleya, zyaada der ruke nahi hum,” added Channan. A union member, echoing similar sentiment said, “Many people commented on social media complaining of no space to even breathe. There were talks of mismanagement. But college hi aisa hai ki space nahi hai. Kya kar sakte hain?”
