Sonam Kapoor Ahuja says it is sad that people are asking if marriage will impact her career
Sonam Kapoor Ahuja is in no mood to take a break after marriage and is actually gearing up for her next big release, Veere Di Wedding. The actor feels that it is “sad” that she has been asked questions about her career plans after marriage.
“Well, people are asking me these questions and that is sad. I do not think it [life after marriage] has really changed that much. I know it for a fact that Kajol, who also got married at the peak of her career, worked. Actors like Dimple Kapadia, Waheeda Rehman also worked after marriage. In fact, Madhuri Dixit did a film like Devdas after marriage,” said actor Anil Kapoor’s daughter, who has been a part of films such as Bhaag Milkha Bhaag (2013), Khoobsurat (2014) and Neerja (2016).
Sonam was under much scrutiny when she immediately changed her surname after her marriage with entrepreneur Anand Ahuja, this month. Shutting her critics and advocating her freedom of choice as one the real tenents of feminism, Sonam said,“I’m a true feminist and I believe in choice. Nobody told me to change my name after marriage. I decided to do it by myself. The whole idea of feminism is to have equal opportunity and the choice to do what I want to do. That choice should be mine. I think, as women we should come together and understand that it should always be about choice. And that should not be taken away. I’m also making sure that I’m leading a normal life and will come back to work after marriage and do what I do the best.”
Besides, there has been a buzz that the actor will be shifting to London with her husband. “I already have a home in London. I was there for the past two years, and nobody noticed. My life will be the same as it is for the last two years. I will stay there for fourfive months and then mostly in Mumbai,” said Sonam, who is going against the celeb trend of buying homes after marriage, Sonam said, “I already have a house in Mumbai, then why?”
