Becoming fit isn’t just a single day task. What’s required are consistent efforts and awareness about how to make one’s body healthy. To help Indians with these, Fever FM and My FM’s initiative — Mission Fit India, which has entered its third week — with actor Suniel Shetty and Yoga guru Baba Ramdev, handholds the listeners for a fitter lifestyle.
This week, the trainers from Suniel ki Sena speak about a diverse range of fitness topics, via the radio channels. However, if you thought that this campaign is only for gym regulars, you stand corrected. The trainers also guide on what and how much to eat, to ensure proper nourishment.
For instance, if you aim to lose weight and think that cutting out carbohydrates from your diet will help, then hear out nutrition and wellness consultant, Neha Sahaya: “These days, people are only consuming protein as carbs can make you fat. However, we forget that carbs give us a lot of nutrition... We get fibre from carbs. Avoiding it is not right. Instead, usko sahi tareeke se distribute karna hai pure din mein.”
If you eat carbs and later feel guilty for being lazy and not gymming, then try other exercises.
Dr Rishi Sherekar says gym is not the only place to start your journey towards fitness. “Agar aapko gym me jana pasand nahi, to aap pehle ek normal goal rakh sakte ho jaise ek ghante mein 6km walk karna. Once you begin to slowly and consistently walk, you start getting interested [in exercising]. Before you know, within a month or two, you’ll slim down and would want to join a gym to gain muscle tone,” he says.
However, once you start regular workouts, it becomes necessary to be careful about your routine. “People generally enjoy their workouts, but when it comes to warming up and cooling down, they feel lethargic and wind it up too early. They end up just focusing on getting a bulky body or whatever their aim is. It’s important to know ki warm up kitna important hai, and work out ke baad cool down and stretching karna kitna important hai. One must not neglect these things. Basically, they need to know the proper way to get fit,” says Pradnya Patil, one of the trainers.
