THE FLAIR OF FLARED JEANS
A staple of the ’70s, flares are back in vogue. Take your cues from these fashionistas to style it right
There are some fashion trends that we don’t mind revisiting. One such trend that makes a comeback every once in a while is the flared jeans. And lately, Bollywood stars have been taking their own pair out for a spin quite a bit.
Ask fashion designer Nikhil Mehra why the trend may be back, and he says, “Trends keep coming and fading out. But the flared jeans trend is about being easy and comfortable.”
From casual brunch dates with friends to night outs and even airport spottings, actors such as Malaika Arora, Athiya Shetty, and Deepika Padukone have been spotted in flared denims. So, how can one nail the look?
Fashion designer Nachiket Barve advocates pairing it with heels, among other things. “Pair it either with a fitted vest tee and loose shirt to dress it down or with a sequinned bomber or bandhni jacket cinched at the waist if you’re going for a dressed up look. Also, ensure that the hem is at least half an inch above the ground — you don’t want it dragging on the ground. If you’re short, the flare should start below your knee. Go for a top knot or sleek ponytail for your hair,” he says.
One mistake that you should avoid when wearing flared denims? “Don’t go overboard with the layering and don’t make it visually heavy at the bottom,” advises Mehra.
