This restaurant is paying tribute to the armed forces
Inspired by the life and achievements of an Army officer — a colonel — this restaurant in Connaught Place, central Delhi, has everything one would expect to see at a colonel’s house. As one steps into 38 Barracks, one’s attention is caught by badges, trophies, medals, guns, family photos, and even clothes and accessories.
We visited the restaurant and the man behind it, restaurateur Ankur
Agarwal, explained what sets this place apart. “38 Barracks is the country’s first food and beverage tribute to the Indian armed forces. We’ve been in this industry for the past 51 years. Here, one can visualise the lifestyle of our soliders, the charm in their life, apart from wars and weapons etc.”
While exploring the place — divided into sections like a house — you’ll find a locker room, a drawing room, and a balcony. They also have a small basement for private parties. The restaurant has a historical and museum-ish feel, so do pay attention to the walls and ceilings.
What’s special on the menu? “Our menu consists of progressive world cuisines: it’s a melange of modern-day fare that’s balanced well by the classical food. So, instead of serving the regular paneer tikka, we serve paneer tikka in the shape of a barrel,” says Agarwal.
Don’t miss their Mutton Shami Kebab, Paneer Tikka Barrel, Palak Patta Chaat, Dal Barracks, Hyderabadi Khattey Baingan and a lot more. Great gigs liven up the atmosphere, and the decor is definitely Insta-worthy.
