How’s it to be married to a swimmer? Very healthy
Actor and swimmer Pooja Banerjee, who tied the knot with national-level swimmer Sandeep Sejwal last year, has a fun take on being married to a top-league sportsperson. “It means you have an extremely disciplined life and definitely a healthy one,” she says with a laugh. Sandeep was a part of the Indian squad at the on-going Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia, and Pooja had accompanied her husband.
“The feeling was amazing. This was the first time I ever cheered for him at an international tournament. I was extremely happy that I was there supporting my nation,” says the actor.
Sandeep couldn’t win a medal, but as they say, participation is the important thing. “Sport is all about living in the moment and enjoying the journey. You sometimes win, and sometimes you don’t, and that’s why the term ‘sporting spirit’ was coined,” says Pooja. “What went wrong would be extremely difficult to tell, since it’s all about chances. He did work hard for it and we all were expecting a medal, but maybe this time he wasn’t destined to win.” The actor adds that she’s motivating him to focus on the next competition. Being a swimmer herself, Pooja understands Sandeep’s sport and passion better.
Would she herself take part in competitive swimming again? “Not at all! I have no time. I work for 12-14 hours every day. It’s practically impossible,” says the actor.
