NOT GETTING CARRIED AWAY BY THE NUMBERS: BHUWAN BAM
But comedianactor Bhuvan Bam, who has reached 10mn YouTube subscribers, isn’t getting carried away
Bhuvan Bam reached the 10 million subscriber mark on his YouTube channel last week. But the Delhi-based comedianactor-singer isn’t getting carried away. The 22-year-old is of course thrilled with the success of his YouTube channel — BB Ki Vines, but he insists that numbers are “not everything” for him.
“It’s a sort of validation that people are watching and liking your videos. You only subscribe after you like something by an artist, and then you would like to see more of it. It gives you a sense of validation. I mean the fact that your subscriber base is still increasing means that what you are doing is relevant,” he explains.
“But that’s about it — numbers don’t mean anything more than that, and for certain, at least in my case, they are not everything. What’s more important is if the content is good, and is resonating with people. I mean, I remember the time when I crossed one million subscribers on my channel. I always dreamt of it. But once I had that, about two years ago, I was like, ‘Now what?’ That’s when I sort of realised that numbers, although very important, don’t mean everything,” adds Bhuvan who recently starred in the short film Plus Minus opposite Divya Dutta.
However, doesn’t the fact that more people are consuming his videos, mean that Bhuvan has to be more mindful of sensibilities and of the freshness of content? “I have always had that kind of pressure, that I have to keep improving my content, as the subscriber base increases. A joke cracked by me two years ago might not produce the same reaction now. People constantly want more, and that’s what drives you as an artist. That’s why you don’t see too many videos (of mine) releasing in a month. I like to take my time in writing the script. I want to take time when I am writing,” he says.
