A relatable mother-son story

- hTC

The relatability factor in stories is what draws audiences to movie theatres, and one such story is the story of Eela, a hovering, overpossessive and overprotective single mother. In today’s world, children want to lead a more private life and they keep fighting for their personal space. Kajol brings to life a story of a single mom who keeps inventing new ways to spend a more time with her teenage son. Helicopter Eela focuses on the hardships that young adults experience with their mothers.

The movie brings to light the concept of helicopter parenting, a concept that describes the typical Indian mother. This slice-of-life film also stars National Awardwinner Riddhi Sen, who essays the role of Kajol’s son, Vivan. The unique relationship that the duo share in the movie will remind you of the relationship you share with your mother.

Director Pradeep Sarkar says, “Basically, today, you have to become friends with your kids if you want to connect with them. You can’t control everything. Parents and kids both need their own space. The film is relevant in today’s time, just because of the basic fact that it’s a story is about understanding each other and the coming together of a mother and her son. It is an emotional story with humour.”

The film also portrays how mothers silently sacrifice everything for their children. And once children grow up and become independent, they look for opportunities to escape their mothers. Somewhere in all this, a mother loses her own identity while making the identity of her child, just like Eela does.

Produced by Ajay Devgn and Jayantilal Gada of Pen Studios, Helicopter Eela releases today.
