Tannishtha Chatterjee is grateful to Nawaz
Tannishtha Chatterjee had wanted to direct for a long time, but the actor would keep procrastinating for one reason or another. It was while shooting for Garth Davis’s Lion (2016) that her co-star and friend, actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui, started pushing her to start working on a project.
“We were shooting for Lion in Kolkata, and at that time, I was just writing the story. Nawaz came to know about the story and my plans to take up direction. Once [I was] done, I showed him the narrative, and he [completely] loved it. When I told him I should meet directors, he was like ‘nahin nahin tu hi isko bana’,” Tannishtha laughs. “I wasn’t ready, but Nawaz made sure I did, and he used to call me every few months till I started working on it.”
The trilingual project, which is titled Roam Rome Mein, has been shot in Italy, Delhi, and Gurgaon. The film stars a bunch of Indian and Italian actors including Valentina Corti, Andrea Scarduzio, Pamela Villoresi, Urbano Barberini, Isha Talwar and Sapna Sand. Prodded to divulge more details about the film, Tannishtha says, “I am bound by contract and can’t say anything about the story except that there are several twists and turns.”
The actor then goes on to express admiration for all the actors, reserving special praise for Nawazuddin, who ensured she made her directorial debut. “He is the reason that the film has got made, so I am thankful to him. He was very excited to be a part of it, more than even I was. Now that we have finished working on the film, I can’t thank him enough for pushing me and performing so well,” concludes Tannishtha, who will now resume work on her acting projects.
