‘I NEED TO PLAN THINGS BETTER’
After working through a packed 2018, Anushka Sharma says she wants to take time to pick the next thing that she is going to do
She got married (to cricketer Virat Kohli) in December last year. And after that, Anushka Sharma got busy with back-toback films — Pari, Sanju and Sui Daaga that will soon be followed by Zero. But it’s interesting to note that Anushka’s filmography doesn’t feature any new project. Ask her if it’s due to her choc-ablock schedule this year and she says: “Yes, that’s surely one of the reasons. Also, it is because I want to take time to pick the next thing that I am going to do. I think I have reached that position in my career — besides having a certain level of security as an actor — wherein I don’t feel the need to do a film just because I want to fill up my calendar.”
The Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (2016) actor feels that if she was “that kind of an actor”, then she would have done back-toback films right from the beginning of her career and done a lot more movies. She explains: “I have lesser films in my kitty than my contemporaries because I have always been very picky. But sometimes, things happen in a back-to-back manner and you end up doing five films continuously. The same has happened with me but in such a case, you want to take some time off (smiles).”
Anushka maintains that “right now, she is in the midst of discussing and figuring out” what she wants to do next. “I will talk about them soon,” says the actor, adding “not many realise” that she is also a producer. “We are in the middle of doing a lot of work at my production house. Work is currently on for top two OTT platforms and that requires time, but unlike films, my role in those things will always be behind the scenes. In comparison, when I am producing a film that I am acting in, it’s different. So, I am constantly there and my time is available for them. But having said that, I have to take out time for everything,” she says.
Does it ever get too much to handle then? “You know,

I am handling so many things right now that it doesn’t look like I will ever slow down. Also, the kind of person that I am and the way I have been working, I don’t think it’s even possible for me to slow down. But I definitely feel that I need to plan things better. I honestly believe that I am not looking after myself, by working in a back-to-back manner, which I need to do,” she says.
